Last weekend we had a contest at our house to see who could best guess the number of acorns in this jar…
Since then we have continued collecting acorns in our yard, and we have now filled several jars and containers!
We have collected all these acorns in our yard over the last 2 weeks. We actually had another jar that we sent home with some cousins.
The kids were very excited about the contest to see who could most closely guess how many acorns are in the 1st jar. Here is how the contest went…
I got everything setup for all the guesses. The kids each got 5 guesses, while Jennifer and I each got 2 guesses.
Here are all the guesses!
The kids got to practice their counting skills during this family activity.
Jennifer and the kids counted acorns, while I wrote down and added up all their counts.
Julie Beth is a great counter for a 4-year-old!

Sam is 3, and he can count to about 10. He needed Mommy’s help, but he still loved counting all his acorns.
Jennifer patiently helped Sam count acorns.
Will is in 1st grade, and he can count into the hundreds.
All the counted acorns went into the box.
410 acorns were in the jar!
Will won the contest by guessing 400 acorns, just 10 short of the actual count.
When I took the kids to Walmart to let Will pick out a toy for his prize, we got sidetracked at the electronic horsey ride.
